This summer has been HOT!!! I have always heard the saying, "Its so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk" but have always wondered if it was really possible. Tripp refuses to wear shoes, and has had a few pieces of lost skin as he braved our driveway this summer, so I thought we would try it. Garrett loves science, so anytime you mention experiment he is in. Here is a run down of the experiment full of sciency type words that Garrett helped me write.
Hypothesis: They egg will cook because the sun makes the driveway even hotter than the hottness of the air.
Supplies: Egg, egg flippy thing, stuff to cook egg in, and the lotiony stuff for when you need to clean your hands without water and soap
The Experiment:
Start time 4:57
Temp 105
Tripp was more excited about using the germex than the experiment.
Time 5:02, boys are already bored and start tree climbing.
I love that it looks like Tripp is praying, but I think he actually had just put on more germex.
Time 5:07
Temp 105
Time 5:10
Temp 105
Time 5:27
Temp 105
Notice the jello/jellyness of the egg and the ring of white under the spatula. Looks like something is happening.
Time 5:37
Temp 105
Some "cooking" definitely happened.
Conclusion: The egg looked yucky and left white on the drive way. It took too long to cook and we had to go to meet the teacher night at school. Mom said maybe if we had more time it would have worked better.
Cleaning our mess.
Garrett was hoping that it would still be there when we got home and be "cooked" all the way, but some puppy walking by had a good snack and it was gone.
