What Did We Do This Summer?

This past summer was a very busy summer filled with lots of travel and fun.  We kicked off the summer with a road trip to Gulf Shores to celebrate Sarah and Casey's wedding.

Navigating

Our mid-afternoon stop complete with purchase of two duck calls.  Followed by new car rules concerning said duck calls.

We made it just in time to enjoy one quick swim.

Examining their catch after headed down to the beach to go crabbing.

Before the wedding we managed to all spend one day burning on enjoying the beach.

All the kiddos playing x-box.

More crabs.

Their catch.  Also, make sure the kids dump out the crabs.  If not they make for a great suprise the next morning.

Wedding Day!!

Our dancing entertainment

The rest of the week was spent relaxing and exploring around Gulf Shores.  First stop the Naval Air Station in Pensacola that is where the Blue Angels practice.  It was VERY loud and very close.

Its Maverick and Goose...

Or more likely...Maverick and Goose.

A really cool plane, that Cody can tell you lots about...

One day the boys and I went to the zoo, and had fun playing with the kangaroos. Then headed over for a round of mini golf.  FYI, Tripp reminds me a little of Happy Gilmore...

Can you find the alligator?

The boys were certain that this is where the alligator's friend was.

We were all impressed at the tongue on this guy.

Some cats do like the water...

The zoo had two free range peacocks just walking around where they pleased.  This guy was beautiful, and was constantly put up his tail feathers...when I didn't have my camera ready.

So this guy.  His cage was not very well made.  He was trying to escape.  He would climb up the window to the top, where there was about a two inch gap that he could put his head through.  Luckily his body wasn't small enough to go through the gap.

The female peacock.

The best part of this zoo, is that they allowed you (for a price) to pet some of the animals.  You could pet the reptiles, the monkeys, kangaroos or the tigers. We chose the Kangaroos.  They were so sweet, and soft!

This guy really liked Tripp.

The staff at the zoo was really nice.  The girl in the kangaroo area asked if she could take my phone and help me get some pictures.  These are some that she helped me get.

Both boys have been super obsessed with playing golf lately. The zoo just happened to have a mini golf course next door, so we decided to play a round while we were there.

Garrett is pretty good.  He concentrates, aims and usually gets around par for most of the holes.

Tripp gets up there and whacks the ball as far as he can.  He went through several balls while we were there. People around us even knew to duck when he got up...

Mom got a hole in one!!!!

In the end Mom won, but Tripp's strategy of just get up there and whack it seemed to pay off.

Meeting Si at Wal-Mart.

This kid LOVES the beach.  He would spend all day in the water if he could.  He also found some of the coolest shells, smallest hermit crabs, and would snorkel forever down the beach if you didn't watch him closely. Garrett enjoyed the beach in small quantities. Usually he would come down with us, surf for about an hour. Then he would sit out, dry off and ask if he could go back to the house and shower.

The beach wears people out!

This year for the first time in 12years Cody asked me if I wanted to go fishing with them when they went.  So Norman, Cody and I spent half of one day in the bay fishing for speckled trout.  It was so much fun.  We got some really big fish, and limited out on our catch.

This is Cody's huge speckled trout.  It weighed in at 7.75 lbs and was 28.25 inches.  We averaged 21 inches for our total catch.

Because you can't ever get enough fishing.

My handsome man!!

My water baby snorkeling.

My wave rider.

Our last night we went out to eat at Lulu's.  They had tons to do while we waited for our table. Like climb into giant hamster balls and walk on water.

The boys also learned how to hula hoop.

And they were awesome at volleyball...

Getting souvenirs.

Headed home.
