Last year, on Garrett's 5th birthday, he got an ant farm. Because they only live for a few months he wanted to wait until summer to order the ants, so he could see them every day. We ordered in June, and were told it was too hot. The company would send us ants when it was below eighty-five degrees outside. Shortly before his birthday this year we finally received the shipping email for his ants, and we got them the day before this birthday. However, they weren't moving, at all. So I called the company, and they resent us our ants. Finally, as of Saturday, we have them! He has been so excited. After prepping the farm, and cooling them in the fridge, we put the ants in the ant farm. In order to be very super
Garrett scientific, Garrett decided that we would take pictures of them every couple of days at the same time so we could monitor their progress. So far they have extended their tunnels, and buried a few that didn't survive the trip to our house.
Can you tell he was excited?!?

The mound with the black dot in it is the buried dead. We amazingly only lost two ants.
What a great idea! I might have to borrow this concept for Christmas. The girls would LOVE this. This is good stuff, Kristen.
