Hawaiian Retreat Day 2

The first day we were there we went to the Pearl Harbor Memorial.  It was a full day of site seeing, but well worth it.  We were able to see the U.S.S. Bowfin (a submarine that was commissioned after Dec. 7th, and their primary objective was to avenge Pearl Harbor), the Arizona Memorial, The U.S.S. Missouri and the museum.  It was very humbling.

These are the torpedoes that were on the sub.  Notice were some of the sailors had to sleep.  Not my first choice of sleeping arrangements.

Where the torpedoes exit the sub.

I was impressed at the kitchen on the sub.  A little tight, but not too bad.

As you can tell, my husband probably wouldn't have made it on the sub.  He could barley make it through the doors.

Arizona Memorial
It is built directly on top of the ship that is still completely underwater still today.
Part of the ship that is above the water.
Notice the oil in the water.  The ship is still leaking oil on a regular basis.
The names of those buried on the Arizona.  These men never got a chance to get off.
These men were stationed on the Arizona, but for some reason either weren't on it that day or made it off.  They have since been buried here.  The last one was last year.
The U.S.S. Missouri
This ship was hit by a kamikaze plane, but was still in commission in the Gulf War.
Me standing between the guns on the front of the ship.

The bullet for the guns, it was longer than I am tall!
This is an actual photo of the kamikaze hitting the ship.  The baker aboard the ship just happened to take this photo.
The Instrument of Formal Surrender of Japan was signed on the Missouri at the end of the war.
We noticed that on the Japanese copy that Canada didn't sign, but they did sign the American copy.

Barely able to walk the halls.

That night we went and ate at Twenty-one, probably the most expensive meal we have ever eaten.  I being the girl that I am chose safe with the "surf and turf" option.  (Definitely not called that on the menu!) While Cody chose to be adventurous.  (Our word for the week.)  He had the five course dinner that consisted of two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert.  The first was Ahi mango salsa and chips.  Cody saw chips and salsa, so when he discovered the raw fish on his plate he freaked a little.  Being the "adventurous" man he is he ate every last bit.  The next appetizer was smoked salmon on crab hash with some kind of egg and caviar drizzle on the side.  Again he being the "adventurous" one ate all of it, but I did at least try a little of it.  The one ball of caviar that I had never touched my tongue so don't ask how it tasted.  The rest of his meal was normal good food.  Nothing crazy, however, it was probably one of the most fun times we have had in a while.  Lots of good laughing.  Thus the silly picture.
